Why Content Matters

You have undoubtedly heard the saying, “content is king.” That is true now more than ever. With over 1 billion websites online, choosing what content to post to distinguish and represent your company and brand is of extreme importance. This is true for content across blogs, articles, as well as social media posts.

Gone are the days of Google rewarding top search results to blog posts and articles stuffed to the brim with mindless keywords. Content must be engaging and intentional. Each item posted on your website or on social media is an extension of what you or your company represents, so make it count.

SEO and Page Rank

There is not one single, magical thing you can do to enhance your website’s SEO and overall page rank. Imagine a person who eats a lot of junk food. Just because that person decides to have a salad at lunch instead of a burger does not mean that person will instantly be in great shape. Rather, a person gets healthy by a combination of working out, eating right, and making healthy decisions. SEO is much the same. Consistently producing useful, relevant and engaging content across your website and social media sites is the best thing you can do for your SEO.

So, how you can you get your website “healthy” and start showing some dramatic results?

Optimized Content

Original content, obviously, is great. But unless that content is optimized, Google may not think your brand new blog post is all that great. When you create original content, think about the most important words you want someone to take away from your post and look for ways to make those keywords of the highest value. Use H1 and H2 headings. Fill your posts with relevant tags. Use alt text that is relevant to your images.

Also, don’t forget to run checks on your site often for bad links and update them often. No one wants a dead link.

Everyone is on Social Media

Think your customers probably aren’t on social networks? You’re wrong. Of 3 billion people actively using the Internet worldwide, 2 billion of those have active social media accounts.

Social media and content marketing are the primary way customers will interact with your brand. Instead of resisting this fact, embrace it. Publish meaningful content. Give them something that is useful to them and that they can share with their friends. Interact with your customers through social media. Generate leads through LinkedIn. Build fans through Facebook. Use a posting software like Buffer to send out your social media posts one time to all your networks at once, so you can be everywhere at once.

Do you consider YouTube a viable marketing source? Did you know that YouTube is the second most-popular search engine, next only to Google? Consider making simple how-to videos for your customers like this one part of your online strategy and marketing plan and watch the hits roll in.

Analytics

Analytics are exciting because they open a window directly into how your customers behave when they are on your website. Using Google Analytics or internal analytics has extreme value, but the real win is not only having access to a vast amount of data, but being able to translate that data into actionable steps that produce results.

There are no magic tricks for conquering SEO. The good news is … there is plenty you can do to start enhancing your SEO and page rank today.
